Jake Bennett founded Yorkshire Lifeguards to create a clear, credible route from swimming confidence into lifesaving, lifeguarding, water safety, first aid, surf lifesaving, sport and community service across East Yorkshire and the Yorkshire coast.
Yorkshire Lifeguard Academy is the RLSS Accredited Club at the centre of the aquatic lifesaving and lifeguarding pathway. Bluewatch Training provides the professional first aid training route for workplaces, schools, nurseries and community organisations. East Riding Surf Life Saving Club supports the surf lifesaving and coastal community pathway on the East Yorkshire coast.
Jake is a qualified swimming teacher, lifeguard trainer and first aid trainer. His background spans pool lifeguarding, beach lifeguarding, swim teaching, lifesaving instruction, first aid training and community water safety work, and is rooted in the Yorkshire coast and the communities around it.
Yorkshire Lifeguards is designed to complement existing swimming lessons, swim schools, swimming clubs and venue programmes by supporting the next step for confident swimmers. It is built around recognised training pathways, qualified instruction, appropriate safeguarding, risk assessment, insurance, venue procedures and responsible delivery systems — not personal enthusiasm alone. The aim is to build reliable local capacity around shared standards, not a one-person project.
For parents and young people, the aim is simple: to offer a safe, structured and meaningful next step for confident swimmers who want to learn practical skills, build confidence and become part of something useful. For employers, schools and community organisations, Jake’s first aid and safety training work is focused on practical, confident response — not box-ticking.
Founder-led, not founder-dependent
Yorkshire Lifeguards begins with Jake's experience, but it is being built around recognised training pathways, qualified instruction, safeguarding, risk management, insurance, venue procedures and responsible delivery systems. As the organisation grows, the aim is to develop a wider team of instructors, trainers, volunteers and partners who share the same standards.
Jake's RNLI volunteering is part of his personal background and operational experience. Yorkshire Lifeguards is independent and is not an RNLI service, scheme or endorsed programme.
The Yorkshire coast is long, varied and demanding — from chalk cliffs and open beaches to harbours, bays, rivers and open-water environments. The North Sea is powerful, cold and unpredictable.
The skills needed to be safe around it — and to help others safely — need to be taught well, developed carefully and supported by a credible, structured approach.
Jake founded Yorkshire Lifeguards to build that structure here — for Yorkshire people, on Yorkshire's coast — helping more young people develop the skills, confidence and identity of a lifesaver, and helping communities become safer around the water.
Jake serves as a volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager at RNLI Bridlington Lifeboat Station, a key lifeboat station on the Yorkshire coast. This operational experience in real-world coastal rescue forms part of his personal background and informs his approach to safety, training, preparation and community service.
