Four hours. Level 2. A nationally regulated RLSS UK qualification in recognising anaphylaxis, emergency first aid, adrenaline auto-injector use and supporting a casualty until emergency services arrive. Suitable for workplaces, schools, nurseries, sports clubs, food businesses, leisure venues and community settings where severe allergic reactions are a foreseeable risk. Delivered by Bluewatch Training across Yorkshire and the East Riding.
Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that can develop rapidly and become fatal without prompt treatment. Common triggers include foods such as nuts, dairy and shellfish, insect stings, latex and certain medicines. These triggers are relevant to many workplaces, schools, sports clubs, events and public settings where staff need to understand how to recognise and respond to a severe allergic reaction.
This Anaphylaxis Management course provides practical training in recognising the signs of anaphylaxis, initiating an emergency response, and administering adrenaline auto-injectors (including EpiPen and similar devices) when required. It is practical and scenario-based, includes practical assessment on CPR and management of anaphylaxis, and leads to the RLSS UK Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis.
The course is suitable for staff and volunteers in settings where severe allergic reactions are a foreseeable risk. It does not require any previous first aid qualification to attend. Bluewatch Training can deliver Anaphylaxis Management at your venue or an agreed training venue, subject to suitable space, learner numbers, practical assessment requirements, access, course requirements and instructor availability.

Assessment
Practical assessment on CPR and management of anaphylaxis
Practical, scenario-based content assessed through practical CPR and management of anaphylaxis — focused on real situations your staff or volunteers are likely to face.
Understanding the physiology of anaphylaxis — how it develops, the difference between mild allergic reaction and anaphylaxis, and common triggers.
The signs and symptoms — including respiratory distress, circulatory collapse, urticaria, swelling and angioedema — and how to distinguish them from milder reactions.
Hands-on practice using trainer adrenaline auto-injectors — correct technique, injection site, timing and what to do if a second dose is needed.
The correct sequence of actions — calling 999, administering adrenaline, positioning the casualty and monitoring until paramedics arrive.
Understanding individual anaphylaxis action plans, how they work in practice, and the role of the trained responder within your organisation's emergency procedures.
Scenario-based practice applying the full response — recognition, administration and emergency management — so participants feel genuinely prepared, not just informed.
This is a practical RLSS UK Anaphylaxis Management qualification covering recognition of anaphylaxis, basic life support, emergency response and adrenaline auto-injector use. Successful candidates receive the RLSS UK Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis, valid for 2 years from assessment.
This session is not…
A replacement for full first aid provision, medical advice, individual healthcare plans, allergy policies, medication arrangements, risk assessments, staff deployment, safeguarding procedures or statutory responsibilities. Organisations remain responsible for their own allergy management arrangements and emergency procedures.
Anaphylaxis training works best when it sits alongside clear allergy policies, individual healthcare plans where required, access to prescribed or spare adrenaline auto-injectors, staff communication, incident recording and regular review.
Emergency response covered in this session follows the principle: recognise anaphylaxis, call 999 (say “anaphylaxis”), administer adrenaline auto-injector without delay if indicated, position and monitor the casualty, prepare for a possible second dose, and hand over to emergency services.
Talk to us about your settingThis course is suitable for settings where staff or volunteers may need to recognise and respond to a severe allergic reaction, and where the organisation identifies Anaphylaxis Management training as appropriate for the role.
Where children with known severe allergies are present, relevant staff should understand the child’s allergy plan, know how to recognise anaphylaxis, know where prescribed or spare adrenaline auto-injectors are kept, and know how to follow emergency procedures. This session can support school, nursery and childcare allergy safety arrangements.
Restaurants, catering firms, food manufacturers and retailers — where staff may need to respond if a customer or colleague experiences an allergic reaction. Supports your allergen management processes.
Coaches, volunteers and event organisers who may be responsible for children or adults with known allergies. Particularly relevant where outdoor activities, food provision or insect stings are a foreseeable risk.
Leisure centres, gyms, swimming pools, holiday parks, activity providers, community centres, places of worship and village halls — settings where staff may be responsible for visitors, participants or children with known allergies.
Successful candidates receive the RLSS UK Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis. The qualification is valid for 2 years from assessment. To renew, candidates must requalify by being reassessed against the required learning outcomes and assessment criteria — normally by completing the 4-hour Anaphylaxis Management course again.
The course includes:
