Yorkshire Lifeguards brings together Yorkshire Lifeguard Academy, East Riding Surf Life Saving Club and Bluewatch Training to provide recognised lifesaving, lifeguarding, water safety, surf lifesaving, first aid and coastal safety training across the Yorkshire coast.

Connected pathways

Yorkshire Lifeguards brings together three connected areas: Yorkshire Lifeguard Academy, East Riding Surf Life Saving Club and Bluewatch Training. Each has a distinct role, but together they create clear routes into lifesaving, lifeguarding, water safety, surf lifesaving, first aid, coastal safety and community service across the Yorkshire coast.

Lifesaving Sport

Lifesaving sport is a competitive, dynamic international sport with events in the pool and on the beach — and it is at the heart of what we do.

It gives young people a reason to keep training, a team to belong to, and a direct link between fitness, competition and real-world drowning prevention.

Our home

Rooted in the Yorkshire coast

Yorkshire Lifeguards is based on the Yorkshire coast, with an initial focus on Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. We work with venues, schools, employers and community partners to deliver safe, structured lifesaving, lifeguarding and first aid training built for this coastline and its communities.

Meet the Founder

Jake Bennett

Founder, Yorkshire Lifeguards

Jake Bennett is the founder of Yorkshire Lifeguards and Yorkshire Lifeguard Academy. He is a qualified swimming teacher, lifeguard trainer, first aid trainer and volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager with the RNLI at Bridlington Lifeboat Station.

Yorkshire Lifeguards is being built around recognised qualifications, appropriate safeguarding, safe delivery, clear progression routes and strong working relationships with venues and community partners.
