East Riding Surf Life Saving Club provides the Surf Life Saving GB pathway within Yorkshire Lifeguards, supporting children, young people and adults to develop surf lifesaving skills, beach safety knowledge, rescue confidence, teamwork, fitness, volunteering and community coastal safety across East Yorkshire and the Yorkshire coast.
East Riding Surf Life Saving Club is the SLSGB-affiliated club within Yorkshire Lifeguards, delivering surf lifesaving, beach safety, rescue skills, lifesaving sport, volunteering and community coastal safety across East Yorkshire and the Yorkshire coast — from Bridlington, Fraisthorpe and Flamborough Head to Filey, Scarborough and Whitby.
The club provides a clear pathway for children from age 7, young people through the Graduate Lifeguard Programme, adults developing lifesaving and patrol skills, and a competitive sport pathway at all levels through SLSGB.
East Riding SLSC is connected to — but distinct from — Yorkshire Lifeguard Academy. Yorkshire Lifeguard Academy is the RLSS pathway for lifesaving, lifeguarding, water safety and qualifications such as Rookie Lifeguard, National Lifesaving Academy, NPLQ, NVBLQ and Open Water Lifeguard. East Riding SLSC is the SLSGB club pathway for surf lifesaving, nippers, youth, adults, lifesaving sport, volunteering and coastal community activity. East Riding SLSC aims to support local coastal safety culture by developing children, young people, adults, volunteers, coaches, officials and future beach lifeguards through structured surf lifesaving activity.
Club activity may include beach-based, pool-based and dry-side learning depending on age, ability, season, conditions, venue access and programme stage. Coastal activity will always be shaped by supervision, safeguarding, risk assessment, weather, sea conditions and individual readiness.
East Riding Surf Life Saving Club is for children, young people and adults who want to learn surf lifesaving skills, take part in lifesaving sport, volunteer, stay active, support coastal safety and become part of a community lifesaving club on the East Yorkshire coast.
You do not need to be aiming for a lifeguard job to get involved. The club is also for families, young people, adults and volunteers who want to build skills, confidence, fitness, friendship and community safety around the coast.
East Riding SLSC activity is developed progressively and responsibly. Beach, ocean, pool and practical rescue activity will always depend on age, ability, supervision, safeguarding arrangements, risk assessment, weather, sea conditions and individual readiness.
Not every session will involve entering the sea. Safety will always come before programme content. Activity is structured, supervised and adapted to conditions — sea entry is never guaranteed and will only take place where it is appropriate, risk-assessed and safely supervised.
Training may introduce patrol awareness, rescue principles and surf lifesaving skills, but members are not expected or authorised to act independently in a rescue or patrol capacity unless they are appropriately qualified, supervised and operating within an agreed club, event or partner framework.
East Riding Surf Life Saving Club provides the SLSGB pathway for children, young people and adults to develop surf lifesaving skills, beach safety knowledge, rescue confidence, fitness, teamwork and community coastal safety capability across East Yorkshire and the Yorkshire coast.
The children's surf lifesaving pathway introduces young people to beach safety, water safety, teamwork, confidence and lifesaving skills through the SLSGB Nipper Lifesaver route.
The youth pathway develops stronger lifesaving skills, leadership, teamwork, confidence and readiness for formal lifeguard qualifications from age 16.
The adult pathway gives people the opportunity to learn lifesaving skills, support coastal safety, volunteer, train, coach, stay active and contribute to the community.
Lifesaving sport develops fitness, rescue capability, teamwork and confidence through beach, ocean and pool-based lifesaving disciplines.
East Riding SLSC is the SLSGB surf lifesaving strand within Yorkshire Lifeguards — connected to, but distinct from, Yorkshire Lifeguard Academy and Bluewatch Training. Together, the three strands support lifesaving, lifeguarding, water safety, first aid and coastal safety across the Yorkshire coast.

Yorkshire Lifeguards has three connected strands:
Community coastal safety
East Riding SLSC can help build local beach safety awareness, surf lifesaving skills, confidence, volunteering and community resilience. The club pathway is primarily about developing people, skills, sport and coastal community.
Any formal patrol, event safety, lifeguard cover or operational activity would only be considered with appropriate qualifications, permissions, safeguarding, risk assessment, insurance, supervision and partner agreements in place.
East Riding SLSC begins from the East Yorkshire coast, with an initial focus on Bridlington, Fraisthorpe, Flamborough, Filey and nearby coastal communities, while remaining connected to the wider Yorkshire coast from Scarborough to Whitby as the club develops.
